In the 1860s, he produced a succession of masterpieces, including \"In Memoriam\" (track 13), a memorial to his father, and a cello concerto, and was gradually acclaimed as one of England's greatest composers. His contributions to dramatic music and opera in particular were outstanding, and in 1883 he was knighted by Queen Victoria.
