He showed his talent from an early age and became one of the most renowned performers and composers of the Genoese violin school. This album contains works by him and three others. It explores the activities of the next generation of composers influenced by Paganini during this period. Civoli's \"Little Theme and Variations,\" written early in his career, is a lyrical melody reminiscent of an operatic aria, with brilliant variations that seem to demonstrate his virtuosity. The other piece is the \"Rondo,\" in which various techniques of the violin are demonstrated with each return of the theme. It is assumed that Civoli studied with Giovanni Serra during the period in which these two pieces were composed, and that he further developed his skills. Serra celebrated his pupil's talent by dedicating his own string quartet to Civoli. Gambini was a composer who also worked as a pianist. Rossini is known to have highly praised Gambini's quartets, which were premiered by his friend Civoli. All are world premiere recordings, performed by the Ascanio Quartet, an ensemble formed in 2004.
