Although the structure of No. 6 is small, the music is full of the dense brushwork of Bruckner's maturity.The Vienna Philharmonic has a deep historical connection with the work, having given the partial premiere conducted by Jahn in 1883 and the complete premiere conducted by Mahler in 1899, but until now the only recording has been a 1972 session disc conducted by Stein, and in that sense this recording under Thielemann is a welcome addition to the repertoire.
