Description:
A masterpiece of 20th century cello concerto, "To a Faraway Country," with Dutilleux's trusted soloist, Kellas, as the definitive masterpiece. The Luxembourg Philharmonic Orchestra and Gimeno, which released the Messiaen works (HMM.905336 / KKC.6787 (scheduled for release in mid-April)), will present a collection of Dutilleux's works. The cello concerto "To a Faraway Country" features Kellas, who was trusted by Dutilleux, as the soloist. As a young budding player, Kellas received a letter from Dutilleux saying, "Thank you for playing my works. Over the years, Kellas played Dutilleux's works many times and visited Dutilleux's home (which was cramped with two concert grand pianos) many times, where he also played Dutilleux's works and received advice from him. The cello concerto "To a Far Country" is a 20th century masterpiece and a difficult piece with many very high notes.Kellas's top-notch technique, his deep and keen insight into the composer's intentions at a moment's notice, and his exquisite ensemble with the orchestra led by Jimeno created a definitive masterpiece in this modern masterpiece. Far Far Away" is a work in five movements played consecutively, with a passage from Baudelaire in each movement. Prior to the creation of this work, there was a project in which Dutilleux was to set music to Baudelaire's "The Flower of Evil" and Roland Petit was to choreograph the piece. However, this project never materialized, and this work was created instead. It was premiered by Rostropovich. The performance is very quiet and enigmatic, and the enigmatic conclusion, which ends with a tremolo played only by the soloist, is highly concentrated and captivating. The Symphony No. 1 is a 30-minute work in four movements, in the form of a passacaglia, with jazz-like elements and an enigmatic ending, full of Dutilleux's unique sense of style. The title "Metabol" is derived from the word metabolism (a metabolic process, a change of substance, or a chemical change that occurs in a cell or microorganism). The first movement features woodwinds, the second a string section, the third a percussion section, and the fourth a virtuosic sound of the entire orchestra. The fact that the Cleveland Orchestra, led by Sell, commissioned and premiered the work may have had something to do with the fact that it was performed by a super group of musicians. The Luxembourg Philharmonic Orchestra led by Gimeno here also delivers a dazzling performance with surprisingly vivid tone. (King International) Includes Dutilleux:. Metabole~for orchestra (1964) [Recorded: July 2019].
