A disciple of the legendary French virtuoso François-René Duchabre, is the Belgian composer Joseph Jongen (1873-1953), famous for his \"Concerto Symphony for Organ and Orchestra\", a collection of preludes for piano! Ilich has been working on recordings of Antoine Reicha (Reicha), who also composed experimental music as a theorist (Volume 1: CHAN10950, Volume 2: CHAN20033, Volume 3: CHAN20194), but this work also features a selection of works with music theory pleasures. 1873, Born in Liège, Belgium, Jongen showed an excellent aptitude for music from an early age, entering the Liège Conservatoire at the unusually young age of 7. He began composing at age 13, winning the Prix de Rome in Belgium in 1897 and receiving a scholarship that took him to Italy, Germany, and France. Discovering Brahms and Richard Strauss in Berlin, Fauré and Dandy in Paris, and Debussy and Ravel, the young Jongen was influenced by their music.Of Jongen's more than 130 numbered works alone, solo piano works account for about one-fifth, and about two-thirds of these were written during the last 30 years of his compositional career. (Many of his early works were influenced by Fauré.) The \"Thirteen Preludes,\" composed in 1922, are highly poetic and sophisticated works, each with evocative titles such as \"Anxiety,\" \"Once upon a time,\" and \"The Black Butterfly\"; the \"24 Minor Preludes,\" composed around 1940, is a cycle of works in all major and minor keys, like Bach's Mean Clavier cycle. The work is a cycle of 12 pairs of major and minor keys, one for each of the 12 major and minor keys. Composed in 12 pairs of major and minor keys, it reveals Jongen's affinity for free form and his mastery of compositional style.
