Dirk Peters, born in 1986 in Gifhorn, Germany, has been active in the jazz vibraphone world, which is now in the spotlight thanks to the success of Joel Ross, Patricia Brennan, Simon Mourier, etc. This is the first album from Sunnyside. The album was recorded in New York City in August 2021. The band is joined by Adam O'Farrill on trumpet (grandson of Latin jazz master Chico O'Farrill), Caleb Wheeler Curtis on alto saxophone, Walter Stinson on bass, and Buzz Donald on drums, all of whom are among the elite of the group. Because of the common instrumentation, some fans may be tempted to compare this album with Eric Dolphy's classic "Out to Lunch" (1964). Dirks became interested in percussion at an early age, and eventually discovered the charm of the vibraphone because "it can also play harmony. He studied at the Conservatory in Cologne with David Friedman and Tom van der Gerd (with an album on ECM), and in 2016 he received a scholarship to New York City. He studied at New York University and the Manhattan School of Music, where he also became acquainted with Stefon Harris (Joel Ross's teacher). The eclectic atmosphere of the New York music scene was perfect for Dirks, who loves both traditional and innovative elements. The songs are all Dirk's originals. M2 "Yet No Treble," a song titled by rearranging the spellings of Ornette (Coleman) and (Paul) Bray, and M4 "Segre," a tribute to John Taylor, one of the greatest British pianists (the name of the city where Taylor last played), are all original compositions by Dirk, as well as a tribute to great musicians who are now deceased. There are also tributes to great musicians who have passed away, such as M4 "Segre" (the name of the city where Taylor last performed) and M6 "Haiku Pelt" inspired by Haiku poetry. The melodies, which range from the lyrical to the agitated, are expressed in crystal clear vibraphone tones.Dirk Peters hopes that the post-pandemic world will be a richer one for music. With this new album, his reputation is sure to grow worldwide.

Tracklisting:

.Sibiu
.Yet No Treble
.Bill
.Segre
.Byroad Lyre
.Haiku Pelt
.Pasco
.Odelot
.Meta
