His lyrical melodies are certainly reminiscent of Schubert, Chopin, Mendelssohn, and Schumann. The arrangements of songs for instrumental music remind one of Liszt's technical works, but Merz's arrangements are ingenious while remaining close to the originals, and respect the composer's image rather than being unexpected. I highly recommend this recording not only to guitar music lovers, but also to those interested in the music of the Romantic period.\n\nPetra Polachkova was born in 1985 in Rožnov Pot Radhoščem, Czech Republic, and began playing guitar at the age of six.He studied at the Rownskieff School of Music and the Pardubice Conservatory.
