Blending atmospheric textures with emotional, post-rock catharsis, LP4 stands apart from American Football’s previous work while simultaneously fitting naturally into the flow of their beautiful, ever-evolving catalog.\n\nRecorded during a 10-day retreat-style session at Panoramic House in Stinson Beach, California, LP4 reflects the band’s deliberate decision to “step into the abyss.” While themes of divorce, turmoil, and uncertainty take center stage, the band’s performance possesses a greater sense of immersion and undeniable conviction than ever before. The opening track, “Man Overboard,” showcases each member’s strengths to the fullest: Lamos’s drumming with its unparalleled style and jazzy swing; the Kinsella brothers’ lyrical, fragile expressiveness and multi-instrumental talents; and Holmes’s signature guitar work. All of these elements swirl together like a shoegaze tornado, with the guitars and bass twisting and driving toward a distorted sound. Furthermore, “BloodOnMyBlood” highlights the band’s signature use of odd time signatures, while “BadMoons” (the longest track in the band’s history) features some of Kinsella’s most intense lyrics to date. The album also features guest vocals from Turnstile’s Brendan Yates (“No Feeling”), Wisp (“Wake Her Up”), and Rainer Maria’s Caithlin DeMarrais (“Blood On My Blood”).\n\nLP4 is an ambitious artistic statement from a band that has continually pushed the boundaries of genre and culture.
