Description:
The latest work by Tadaaki Otaka and the Sapporo Symphony Orchestra is Elgar's Symphony No. 3 & the majestic No. 6! Following the previous release "Dvorak's Symphonies" (SIGCD110), here comes the second release of Tadaaki Otaka & Sapporo Symphony Orchestra's 45th anniversary project! The new release, the second in the project and the second on Signum Classics, features Elgar, Maestro Otaka's 18th favorite. Moreover, this is the first recording by a Japanese orchestra, a combination of "Symphony No. 3" & "Majestic No. 6"! Several decades after Elgar's death, the British composer Anthony Payne, who was commissioned by the BBC, completed the unfinished Symphony No. 3 in 1997.The "Dignity No. 6" was also unfinished after Elgar's death, and even a sketch of it did not see the light of day until 1996. Tadaaki Otaka and the Sapporo Symphony Orchestra gave the Japanese premiere of "Symphony No. 3" in 2004, and their knowledge of Elgar's music is one of the best not only in Japan but also in the world. If the Hickox & BBC National Orchestra of Wales recording (CHSA5057), which was released by Chandos in 2007 and attracted a great deal of attention for its identical content, is the British representative, this is the Japanese representative. It is very interesting to compare Elgar representing both Japan and the UK. Elgar from the land of the north will show the world the potential and fundamental power of Japanese orchestras
