Lou Harrison's Concerto is a concerto in his own unique style that incorporates elements of Indian and African music into the twelve-tone technique. The combination of the violin, which sings with great clarity, and the wild sounds of the percussion create a magnificent piece of music. Varèse's \"Ionización,\" one of the pioneering works of music for percussion, is a small piece of about five minutes in length, but the sounds of 37 instruments, including even a fire truck siren, intermingle to create a wonderful soundscape.
