The composer, Gottlieb Muffat, the youngest son of Georg Muffat, who was active at the courts of Salzburg and Passau, had a promising future as a musician from an early age, and he himself did not disappoint, showing great talent as an organist and teacher. His works were written in a sophisticated style and are said to have influenced Handel, who was active at the same time. Unfortunately, only a few of his works were published during his lifetime, and the autograph manuscripts preserved in Berlin were scattered during World War II. These recordings, including the first collection, were made possible by a search for scores scattered around the country, and this album helps to revive the unknown composer.
