The mandocello is a baritone instrument of the mandolin family, much larger than the mandolin, and tuned C-G-D-A like the cello. Although the mandocello is played with a pick rather than a bow, making it difficult to sustain notes and hold double tones, Amran skillfully expresses them mainly with tremolos, bringing new sounds and a unique perspective to the original composition. The instrument used is a mandocello by Israeli maker Arik Kerman, whose arrangements and performances vividly demonstrate the potential of this instrument. Amran is an internationally active musician based in Israel and has performed with many orchestras as a scholarship student of the AICF (American-Israeli Cultural Foundation).
