Jansons was always meticulous in his preparations, and this is a concert in which he was in perfect condition. The performance time of each movement is almost the same as that of the RCO recording, which again shows that Jansons had no hesitation in his interpretation. In all six movements, Jansons' skill in presenting the dramatic nature of the music without any lull in the nearly 100-minute performance was superb, as was his careful orchestration of the orchestra. Stutzman's solo singing in the fourth movement was as brilliant as a ray of light shining in the darkness, and the singing of the boys in the fifth movement was truly a chorus of angels.
