This is a remarkable new recording. The ensemble is composed of a chamber orchestra (strings: 5\/5\/3\/3\/1 with one wind instrument per part) of up-and-coming players from the Palace of Versailles and a chamber choir from the Choral Society of Barcelona, which is based in the historic theater and has made a great contribution to the revival of ancient music, Together with the reliable solo singers, the ensemble vividly weaves a drama full of ups and downs. The interpretation is very effective throughout the work, pursuing nuance and rich color, while making the most of tempo changes and avoiding the sharp angles of expression often seen in ancient instrumental music. The work of Franck Jaffres, a talented engineer who has worked for many years with Territoires, is also very reliable, and he has captured the flavor of this new-age, fresh masterpiece that echoes in the chapel space of the Palace of Versailles.
