Her early works were strongly influenced by Brahms and Mendelssohn, whom she admired, but later she wrote many of her own works, adopting Wagnerian chromatic progressions and neoclassical styles. In the latter half of his life, he devoted himself to the women's liberation movement and is known to have written many books on the subject. This world premiere recording by the Mannheim String Quartet includes the String Quintet of 1883 and the String Quartet written in 1902 and revised in 1912.
