The most acclaimed \"Lulu\" in recent years! Berg \"Lulu\" directed by Warlikowski, Hannigan's charm explodes! You can no longer talk about \"Lulu\" without seeing this! Berg's \"Lulu\" is a popular opera that is always talked about whenever it is performed. This DVD features the performance at the Théâtre de la Monnaie in Brussels, Belgium, which has been highly acclaimed in recent years as one of the best productions of \"Lulu\" in the world. The production is directed by Krzysztof Warlikowski, a Polish-born director who is very popular in France and Belgium. The key role of Lulu is played by Barbara Hannigan, a soprano born in Nova Scotia, the easternmost province of Canada. Hannigan, who specializes in contemporary music, was over 40 years old at the time of the performance, but her body was so toned that it was hard to believe she was a singer, and she looked like a young girl. Of course, her singing and acting are of a high standard. With Hannigan, who seems to have been born for this Lulu, Walulikowski's direction is brilliant.Lulu has the look of a sexy idol from a ballet girl's background, and at the beginning of the film, she appears as a spiffy model in her underwear. The story is given depth by the sad look of Lulu (a girl ballerina) as a young girl as she stares at her (other girl ballerinas play important roles as well). The most notable scene is the final scene, Act 3, Scene 2. This scene, written by Chelja's assistant, tends to be a clean-up act, but Warlikowski makes this final scene a masterpiece, a gruesome yet beautiful must-see scene. Warlikowski's \"Lulu\" is worth seeing even if you are not an opera fan, as he uses a variety of techniques to cut right to the heart of \"Lulu\". The singers other than Hannigan are also excellent. Dr. Schön and Jack the Ripper are played by Dietrich Henschel.Jack the Ripper, in particular, is a more important role than usual, and Henschel's presence comes alive. Alva is Charles Workman, known as the Rossini tenor. He has the look and acting to match, as well as the awkward high notes. Natasha Petrinsky, Countess of Geschwitz, is a Vienna-born mezzo-soprano. She is a talented singer with a wide repertoire ranging from baroque to modern and contemporary works. Painter and Negro is Tom Randall, a tenor active in Baroque music. Sigolch is a British-born (father Ukrainian, mother British) bass-baritone, Pavlo Hnka, who creates an exquisite portrait of the character. Conducted by British conductor Paul Daniel, who has been music director of the Orchestre National de Bordeaux Aquitaine since 2013; he was music director of Opera North from 1990 to 1997 and of the Engrish National Opera from 1997 to 2005.There are already many video products of \"Lulu,\" but this DVD is a wonderful record of the performance that takes a step or two away from that.
