From the very beginning of the First Symphony, the performance is full of unusual tension and persuasiveness, and has a sense of scale that easily surpasses any other performance that has existed to date. The serene sound produced by the Helsinki Philharmonic is also thrilling. The bustle in the fourth movement, as promised, is also perfect.
