This \"Gershwin Concert\" is truly \"my style\" Gershwin, with its heavy, superbly slow tempo, which is hard to imagine that there will be some who frown upon first hearing. But the persuasiveness is unparalleled. Gershwin is a genius in composition, and no matter how slow the tempo, the beauty of the song is undeniable. The soloist, Siegel, a native of the U.S., won first prize at the 1989 Ron Thibodeau Conservatory. She has recorded Gershwin with Slatkin at a normal tempo. Svetlanov was eager to perform the piano concerto, and the director of the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra recommended Siegel to Svetlanov, which made this collaboration possible. Svetlanov liked Siegel and they performed together in The Hague and in Russia.Siegel fondly recalls that his promise to perform Tchaikovsky's second concerto and Rachmaninoff's first concerto together this time could not be fulfilled because of his death.
