Auerbach was aware of Kashkashian's recordings and had noted her excellent performances even before meeting her at the 2010 Valbier Festival, and the meditative sonata on this album titled \"Arcanum - Secret Medicine, Mystery\" was also written for Kashkashian. Auerbach wrote this sonata for Kashkashuan. Auerbach said of this sonata, \"We may not always verbalize or rationalize. We can seek answers to see the truth.\" He said. Shostakovich: 24 Preludes was also transferred to the viola for Kashkashian to perform.This work was originally for solo piano, but arrangements for violin and piano by Dmitry Zyganov have also been widely popular (although Zyganov arranged only 19 pieces; the remaining five were arranged by Auerbach in 2000).
