Verdi (1813-1901)

Description:

Riccardo Merri at his best! The "Masked Ball" in Parma, vividly conducted by Gelmetti! The highlight of the performance was Francesco Meli, who performed Riccardo for the first time. His passionate singing is perfect for Riccardo! His singing and acting were so magnificent that it was hard to believe that this was his first role, and one could sense the expectation that he will be even more active as a Verdi tenor in the future. Vladimir Stoyanov as Renato is back after his well-received performance of Germont in "Traviata" at the 2007 Verdi Festival. He well portrays the process of a kind-hearted, earnest man who turns murderous when his wife betrays him. Christine Lewis of Amelia is a soprano born in Arkansas, USA.A soprano who has been rapidly emerging since around 2005, she now lives in Vienna and has appeared in many Italian and German theaters, specializing in Verdi heroines. Ulrica's Elisabetta Fiorillo, born in Caserno, near Naples, known for Palazzo Caserta, is a veteran of nearly 30 years, singing a variety of mezzo-soprano roles. She has appeared twice at the New National Theatre. Serena Gamberoni, the Oscar, is Melli's beloved wife. She has visited Japan several times with him, so she is probably well known in Japan. Gianluigi Gelmetti is now a master of his craft, but his music remains highly insightful, and this performance of "The Masked Ball" has many fresh charms that are different from those of ordinary performances. The production was originally staged by Pierluigi Samaritani (1942-1994) in Parma in 1989, and Massimo Gasparone has restaged it.The stage, which dares to create an old-fashioned atmosphere through the active use of shobun, is very beautiful and well matched with the new costumes.
