Description:

This is a tragic love story of the water nymph Rusalka, a tale similar to Andersen's "The Little Mermaid. Rusalka is considered evil in Slavic mythology, but in the opera by Dvořák (1841-1904), she is portrayed as a lovely, dreamy girl. Recently, thanks to the efforts of Renée Fleming, who is a great admirer of this work, this beautiful opera has become widely loved, but in the 1980s there were only a few recordings of it, and this video of the English National Opera production of Pountney's production is recognized as extremely valuable. This video of Pountney's production of the English National Opera is recognized as an extremely valuable recording. Although sung in English, the beautiful stage setting and the neat singing, especially Hannan's dainty appearance, make this a work that deserves to be understood. The orchestra, conducted by Elder, also sounds beautifully, with a combination of simplicity and gravity. Naxos Japan
