Description:
Carlos Kleiber's "Traviata"! And it's a complete first release! Amazing sound sources from MAGGIO LIVE! MAGGIO LIVE, the new label of the Florence May Festival, has released its second release! Carlos Kleiber's Verdi "Traviata"! ! In December 1984, Carlos Kleiber conducted Verdi's "Traviata" directed by Franco Zeffirelli at the Teatro Municipal in Florence, and records indicate that performances were held on December 5, 9, 12, 16, 18, 20 and 23. A pirate recording with the date of December 9 has been circulated, but the sound was not in good condition. The recording presented here by MAGGIO LIVE is from December 20, at the end of the concert, and the presence of a prominent cough makes it clear that it is a performance from a different date. This is the first time this recording has ever appeared on the market. Not much needs to be said about Kleiber's conducting, what you hear here is truly a live Kleiber "Traviata"! As this is a Florentine opera house, Kleiber's passion and the proficiency of the Italian opera house orchestra work very well together. The singers are also very good. Violetta's Cecilia Gasdia was only 24 years old at the time. Two years prior to this performance, she had substituted for Monserrate Cavalier in the title role of Donizetti's "Anna Bolena" at La Scala, and had led the production to great success, becoming a rising star among Italian prima donnas and enjoying a rapid rise in popularity. This was her first Violetta. Since Gasdia has few recordings of Verdi itself, this live recording of the Violetta is extremely valuable. Alfredo's Péter Dvorsky is a Slovak tenor who gained popularity in Japan. At that time, he was 33 years old and already a star tenor with an international career. Dvorsky was Kleiber's favorite tenor, and he had great trust in him, as Dvorsky sang Rodolfo in Puccini's "Boheme" during his visits to La Scala in 1981 and 1988. Giorgio Zancanaro of Germont was a baritone who was heavily used by Riccardo Muti during his time at La Scala. He was 45 years old at the time, but he was a late bloomer, and was just at the height of his international popularity. The sound is not as balanced as a broadcast recording, but in stereo, the excitement in the theater comes through very vividly.Long-awaited for Carlos Kleiber fans who have made little progress in discovering previously unreleased recordings, share the excitement of the theater 30 years ago on this CD!
