Description:
The second installment of Savar's historical tale series "East-West"! Savar's latest release in the series of historical tales, a collection of Middle Eastern folklore rooted in Syria, the most historic land in the world! Seven years after the release of "East-West" (AVSA 9848), an album that collected music from the Mediterranean (West) and Middle Eastern (East) worlds, from the Iberian Peninsula in the west to Afghanistan in the east, the long-awaited second volume of this series is now available! The first album is one of the most famous albums of Savard's career, and it is inevitable to pay attention to this one as well. Following the theme of the previous program, which focused on cross-cultural exchanges between East and West, this time the program focuses especially on the music of the Middle Eastern country of Syria. Syria, which is also called the land with the oldest history in the world, has flourished since ancient times thanks to its fertile land, but it has also experienced a turbulent history, having been subjected to domination by other countries such as Greece, Rome, the Ottoman Empire, and Europe. This album includes many folk songs, instrumental pieces, and dances that are rooted in Syria, a land of many different cultures. As in the previous album, the selection is from the "Cantigas of the Virgin Mary," which shows the connection between the East and the West in the Middle Ages. Many instruments representative of Middle Eastern classical music, such as nayi, oud, and qanoon, appear on this disc, and you will be able to enjoy the rich sound of the Middle East! In addition to members of the Esperion XXI instrumental group, the recording features guest musicians from Syria, Greece, Lebanon, Israel, Turkey, and other countries representing the Middle East. The recording is aptly titled "East meets West," bringing together musicians from the West and the East. The 400-page booklet includes a chronological history of Syria spanning 5,000 years. The album is a great way to learn about the depth of the country's history and culture, as well as its music. This is the latest release from Savar, who loves the Syrian people, and by extension, the culture that has been handed down from generation to generation in the country, and who strongly wishes for peace in this land!
