Australian musician Stella Donnelly will release her second album, Flood, on August 26, 2022, on Secretly Canadian.Following 2019's Beware of the Dogs, Flood is Donnelly's re A record of discovery, it is the product of months of risky experimentation, self-reflection, and many transitions. Like the Banded Stilt on the cover, Donnelly is venturing into uncharted territory, learning how rich she can be as an artist and as an individual. Donnelly birdwatched in the rainforest of Bellingen, Australia, one of the many cities where he lived while working on the album. I was able to lose the sense of someone else's reaction to me," she says. I was able to forget that I was a musician and just be present," she says.Reaffirming her tiny existence, Donnelly was able to dig up new creative wells that she did not know existed. She wrote 43 songs while leaving Bellingen and moving around the country. 'I often wrote songs in strange places. I traveled to Fremantle, Williams, Gildington, Margaret River, Melbourne, and often I didn't know where I was. There's no denying that having closed borders and not being able to contact your family can make you focus on the important parts of your life," she recalls. Writing songs in a new location also created a new approach. Writing songs with band members Jennifer Aslett, George Foster, Jack Gaby, and Marcel Tussie sometimes felt like an experimental kindergarten romp. Co-producers Anna Laverty and Jake Webb (Methyl Ethyl) also created an effortless naturalness in the studio.Moving away from his previous practice of writing songs on electric guitar, Donnelly used the piano to infuse his work with the album's introspective fluidity and vulnerability. Donnelly describes Banded Stilt as "an illusion when viewed in a group, but a singular work of art when viewed alone. Each song in Flood is an art form in itself, but the collective is richly shared by all of Stella Donnelly. Her inner child, her nurturing self, her own nightmares...she pours it all out in this work. It takes an ocean to understand everything she feels. But it is well worth the dive.

Tracklisting:

.Lungs
.How Was Your Day?
.Restricted Account
.Underwater
.Medals
.Move Me
.Flood
.This Week
.Oh My My My
.Morning Silence
.Cold
