Steve Nelson, born in Pittsburgh in 1955, is one of the leading vibraphonists of his generation. It is an undeniable fact that Steve has carved out his own unique musical style as a vibraphonist, starting from the influences of Milt Jackson. This work is a tribute to Mulgrew Miller, whom Steve Nelson has played with and respected for a long time. Mulgrew Miller was a soulful and sturdy piano player in the 80's, a time when crossover jazz was also popular. Mulgrew Miller's untimely death is still regretted by many, even among the new generation, but for Steve Nelson, Mulgrew Miller was a member of the quartet that formed the core of his own music. Steve Nelson was a member of the quartet that formed the core of his own music, and it is clear from his works that he holds a special place in his heart. The two members of the quartet are Peter Washington and Lewis Nash, an ironclad duo. In other words, the rhythm section is the same as in "Sound Effect," the last work by Steve Nelson and Mulgrew Miller, and the piano is played by Danny Grissett, the famous pianist who carries on Mulgrew Miller's spirit in the present age. The quartet's performance, which is not influenced by the changing times, is full of love for jazz and beautifully expands the possibilities of acoustic jazz. The swingy rhythm section, the modal, powerful, and driving Grissett, and Steve Nelson's vibraphone contrast beautifully with the weight of the music.More than half of the ten songs are by Mulgrew Miller, and the performances also highlight the appeal of the compositions. Even the last number, dedicated by Danny Grissett to Mulgrew Miller, is a great piece filled with the members' thoughts and feelings!
