While suites of that era were typically given common names such as “Allemande,” “Courante,” or “Gavotte,” Couperin’s works bear more varied titles; they are delightful pieces that incorporate names of people and words expressing emotions, as can be heard in this album.\nThis collection of works for two harpsichords faithfully adheres to Couperin’s own notation—in which he wrote that “performance on two harpsichords is preferable” for several pieces typically played on a single instrument.
