Although it was accepted at first, it was not performed because a requiem was inappropriate for a celebration and its content was too Christian. The work was dedicated to the memory of Britten's parents and premiered at Carnegie Hall in 1941.

Winter Words" is a collection of sentimental songs originally composed for tenor and piano, with texts from eight poems by Thomas Hardy. It is a world premiere recording with a new orchestration by Robin Holloway (the orchestral version was first performed in 2021 by the LPO under Gardner, with Spence singing solo).

The Prince of Pagoda is a ballet by Britten. Britten wanted to arrange his own full-length ballet into a dramatic orchestral suite. This was ultimately not possible, but Gardner has now selected music from the ballet to create the suite. The percussion section of the LPO enlivens the world of the story with gamelan-style sounds.

LPO
Tracklisting:

1.Sinfonia da Requiem, Op. 20~Lacrymosa2.Sinfonia da Requiem, Op. 20~Dies irae3.Sinfonia da Requiem, Op. 20~Requiem aeternam4.Winter Words, Op. 52~At day-close in November5.Winter Words, Op. 52~Midnight on the Great Western - 'The journeying boy'6.Winter Words, Op. 52~Wagtail and baby - 'A satire'7.Winter Words, Op. 52~The little old table8.Winter Words, Op. 52~The choirmaster's burial - 'The tenor man's story'9.Winter Words, Op. 52~Proud Songsters - 'Thrushes, finches and nightingales'10.Winter Words, Op. 52~At the railway station, Upway - 'The convict and the boy with the violin'11.Winter Words, Op. 52~Before life and after12.The Prince of the Pagodas, Op. 57~Prelude13.The Prince of the Pagodas, Op. 57~Act I.
