This album contains three pieces composed for her, and you can experience Glennie's wonderful ability to feel the music in her whole body. First, the opening piece, a concerto by Orlitsch, which she describes as having minimalist and ethnic influences, uses a five-octave marimba and showcases her shimmering virtuosity. The next piece, \"La Follia,\" by Carl Jenkins of Adiemas fame, is a dramatic modern revival of a melody that was all the rage in the 15th century, complete with transfigured variations. The final piece, Rorem's \"Mallet Concerto,\" spins a varied and sophisticated sounding music by manipulating four different instruments in all directions. The Hong Kong City Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Jean Trélle, also fully complemented Glennie's performance.
