He grew up in Vienna and Salzburg, and Mozart is one of his most cherished composers. In 1990, he recorded Mozart Violin Concertos Nos. 1 and 2 with the Mozarteum Orchestra of Salzburg, conducted by Hans Graf, which were highly acclaimed by the critics. After 32 years, Schmidt recorded Mozart's concertos Nos. 3-5, which were highly praised by critics. The Musica Vitae Chamber Orchestra, led by Schmidt, provided the backing for this recording. Schmidt says, \"The key to interpreting Mozart is to sing and talk,\" and he makes full use of his beautiful tone to unite with the orchestra with a firm determination in the performance. With the exception of the cadenza in the second movement of No. 3, the other cadenzas are Schmidt's own.
