Born the son of Stein, a master fortepiano maker whom Mozart admired, Nanette was talented in both piano playing and piano making. He later married and moved to Vienna, where he became known as the \"third master\" piano maker, following Johann Schanz and Anton Walter. It is known that Beethoven, who was dissatisfied with the pianos of the time and had many orders, also relied on Nanette. This album uses the original instrument she made in 1813. The Viennese-born pianist Ines Schüttengruber performs works by composers who were active in Vienna at the time this instrument was made. The album, reminiscent of Nanette's salon concerts, concludes with Nanette's own compositions.
