The story, scripted by Helge Rohde, is a fairy tale of a \"mother\" representing Denmark and a \"son\" representing the restored region. Nielsen's beautifully patriotic compositions, which include quotations from old Danish songs and the national anthems of the countries that participated in the Great War, add to the significance of what was arguably the most important event in Denmark in the first half of the 20th century.
