This fifth album from the giants of shoegaze is a work in which the classic band continues to raise its unmistakable voice toward the future, embodying the duality of a familiar inner language and the exhilaration of a new beginning. Here, Rachel Goswell (vocals\/guitar), Neil Halstead (vocals\/guitar), Christian Savill (guitar), Nick Chaplin (bass), and Simon Scott (drums) explore their immersive, elemental sound. The 2023 Slowdive exudes a familial energy rooted in their rich history. *Everything Is Alive* is dedicated to Goswell’s mother and Scott’s father, who both passed away in 2020. “Some of us have gone through profound personal transformations. Those turning points are reflected in the layered emotional tenor of Slowdive’s music. *Everything Is Alive* is weighed down by experience, yet each sound is calm, wise, and inevitably full of hope. “That unique alchemy subtly embodies both sorrow and gratitude, a grounded sense of reality and a sense of elation,” says Goswell. The album began with writer\/producer Halstead creating demos at home. While experimenting with modular synths, Halstead initially envisioned *everything is alive* as a “minimal electronic record.” Ultimately, through the band’s collective decision-making, they returned to their signature reverb-drenched guitars, though the initial concept had already seeped into the songwriting. “We always come from slightly different directions.
