The Hagen brothers, who form the core of the Hagen String Quartet, were originally from Salzburg, the hometown of Mozart (1756-1791), where they studied at the Mozarteum School of Music and formed a string quartet. Nevertheless, his performance is quite distant from "conventional Mozart," and there are many innovative and shocking tricks throughout the performance. This is evident even in the opening movement of No. 14, "Spring. This is a period-instrument interpretation (non-vibrato, fast tempo), which is becoming more and more common these days, and those who seek solace in Mozart may be repulsed by it.
