Description:
The much-talked-about Lotto, the new disc is Liszt! Dante Symphony opens with a terrific trombone roar, and the period instruments come alive! The new disc of the remarkable conductor, Roto, is Liszt. The performance by Les Siecle, a period instrument group led by Lotto, is devoid of any heavy-handedness. Starting with the powerful tones of the trombones, the orchestra paints a picture of hell using only "sound". The "Dante Symphony" opens with three trombones that are filled with the horror and awfulness of being plunged into an abyss. All of the trombones were made in the early 20th century, and their tones are vivid and realistic. This performance vividly brings to life the picture of hell that Liszt painted with sound. The fantastic beauty of "Orpheus" transports the listener to another world.*Liszt's Dante is also known for "Reading Dante - Sonata-like Fantasy" for piano (1837, a huge piece of superb technique that takes about 15 minutes), but this symphony is also large in scale, with a performance time of about 50 minutes. Following "Hell" and "Purgatory," the third movement, "Heaven," was originally planned, but Wagner said, "It would be impossible to express the joy of heaven in music by using any human voice," and so it was decided to stay until the second movement. The trombones at the beginning, the tearing sound of the double basses, and the ear-splitting sharpness of the winds were all the work of the period instrument orchestra Les Siecle, which is indeed a group of virtuoso musicians. The orchestra is a period instrument orchestra of the highest caliber, and the hellish picture that Liszt painted is still going on. Instead of "Heaven," a clear "Magnificat" is sung at the end of the second movement, but in this Lotto performance, it is sung by a choir composed mainly of boys. The performance closes with a divine clarity reminiscent of the singing of angels.Orpheus" was composed between late 1853 and 1854 as an introduction to Gluck's opera "Orpheus" to be performed in Weimar. It opens with a beautiful and fantastic arpeggio by two harps, reminiscent of the tone of the lyre played by Orpheus. The beauty of the second theme by English horn and clarinet is superb. The beautiful lyre and singing of Orpheus, who has appeased even the guardians of hell, and the high artistry of this work, which has become a tribute to Liszt, are spun with great elegance by the members of Les Siecle.
