Description:
D. Liebman, D. Binney, D. McCaslin, S. Blythe A saxophone quartet featuring some of the world's finest jazz saxophonists. The Four Visions Saxophone Quartet, featuring Dave Liebman, David Binney, and Danny McCaslin, makes its debut! The quartet was sparked by the youngest of the four, baritone saxophonist Samuel Blythe. Samuel Blythe began playing the saxophone at the age of 9, won several classical competitions around the age of 15, studied at the University of Montreal's Faculty of Music for 3 years, and then moved to jazz at McGill University. He earned a bachelor's degree in jazz performance and also a master's degree in jazz performance from the Manhattan School of Music. It was at the Manhattan School of Music where he met Liebman. From there, they began touring together, and when Liebman learned of Blythe's desire to start a saxophone quartet, he enthusiastically supported her.In late 2011, the two discussed other players who would be a good fit, and with the addition of Danny McCaslin, whom they had met through performances and master classes in Montreal with Blythe, and David Binney, a close friend of McCaslin, the "Four Visions Saxophone Quartet The music is all original compositions by the four musicians. The music is all original by the four. While the World Saxophone Quartet, the most famous jazz saxophone quartet, has a jazz-based black music, avant-garde, and free sound, the Four Visions Saxophone Quartet's sound is based on classical and chamber music compositions, mixed with improvisation, and carefully calculated. The sound is not classically crafted, but is a very detailed and calculated sound with a mix of improvisation. Although the music is classically crafted, the rich timbres, flexible techniques, and groove are typical of jazz. While the music itself requires a high level of technique, the improvisation is also top-notch! It is no exaggeration to say that the sound, which changes inexhaustibly from piece to piece and scene to scene, has greatly expanded the possibilities of the saxophone quartet. Another highlight of this album is that each of the soloists and band leaders has composed a piece for the saxophone quartet.A highly anticipated saxophone quartet by some of the world's finest jazz saxophonists!
