Description:

Beethoven's favorite disciple" has produced eight symphonies. ...... The world's only complete symphonic works by Ferdinand Ries (1784-1838), which are increasingly being performed by professional and amateur orchestras in Japan, have been released in Japan as a domestic-issue disc. From 1809 to 1835, Ferdinand Ries wrote his symphonies in the hope of becoming a classical composer, and they are an amazing treasure trove of material! Symphony No. 1" with its tricky opening similar to the early works of his master Beethoven, "No. 5" dominated by the "fate" motive, "No. 6" with its baroque flavor, and "No. 8" reminiscent of Mozart's "Jupiter Symphony". The "No. 6" and "No. 8" are reminiscent of Mozart's "Jupiter Symphony". What is art, what is classical music, and what is originality? This is a symphony collection for those who are searching for the answers to these questions. --Kagehara Fumihiro Ries was born in Bonn in 1784 and moved to Vienna in 1801, where he studied with Beethoven. He later swept across Europe as a popular composer and pianist. In the same vein as his master Beethoven, he wrote works in a wide range of genres, from piano sonatas and piano concertos to symphonies, string quartets, operas, and oratorios, in a style ranging from the grand classical style to the early romantic. The eight symphonies, all in four orthodox movements, are familiar in conception and structure, with motifs reminiscent of Beethoven's works appearing here and there. The Japanese premiere of Ferdinand Ries' Symphony No. 1, conducted by Norichika Iimori at the Pacific Philharmonia Tokyo in February 2024, has drawn increasing attention to Ferdinand Ries as a classical composer. The domestic edition will include a Japanese commentary by Fumiho Kagehara, author of "Beethoven's Loving Disciple: The Strange Fate of Ferdinand Ries". Naxos Japan
