Schoop’s final symphony, “Symphony No. 10,” which remained unfinished and unpublished, was completed by American conductor Eugene Minor and premiered in 1998 by the Bergen Youth Orchestra of New Jersey. In addition to “Symphony No. 10,” the album features the “Symphony No. 8” from his mature period and the overture to “The Duel of the Lovers”—a masterpiece from his early years making its world premiere recording here. The quality of the performances and the selection of works surpass that of the previous three volumes. Howard Sherry’s complete set of Spohr’s symphonies—which is sure to become his signature achievement—is just one step away from completion!
Tokyo M Plus

Tracklisting:

1.Der Zweikampf mit der Geliebten, WoO50: Overture
2.Symphony No. 8 in G major, Op. 137: Adagio - Allegro
3.Symphony No. 8 in G major, Op. 137: Poco adagio
4.Symphony No. 8 in G major, Op. 137: Scherzo: Allegretto - Trio: Un poco meno allegro
5.Symphony No. 8 in G major, Op. 137: Finale: Allegro
6.Symphony No. 10 in E flat major, WoO8: Allegro
7.Symphony No. 10 in E flat major, WoO8: Larghetto
8.Symphony No. 10 in E flat major, WoO8: Scherzo: Allegretto - Trio
9.Symphony No. 10 in E flat major, WoO8: Finale: Allegro
