Pressed by RTI. Abbey Lincoln (1930-2010) was not only one of the great jazz vocalists, but also an avid civil rights activist, accomplished songwriter, talented actress, and inspiring teacher. Lincoln honed her skills as a club singer and worked under various stage names in Los Angeles. Influenced by Billie Holiday and Louis Armstrong, Lincoln's distinctive, emotionally rich voice soon caught the attention of industry insiders, and in the mid-1950s she signed a recording contract with Riverside Records, a prominent New York City jazz label. 1957 to Three albums for Riverside, recorded between 1959 and 1959, show Lincoln pushing the limits of his creativity and working with innovative contemporaries such as Sonny Rollins, Philly Joe Jones, Benny Golson, and her future husband, Max Roach The film "Abbey Is" is the first of its kind in the world. This album, Abbey Is Blue, is Lincoln's fourth studio album and the outstanding title of the prolific Lincoln's last recorded work at Riverside. In a departure from her earlier work, which focused on standards from the Great American Songbook, the singer sings solemnly and introspectively about the harsh realities of the world, as the title suggests, while her vocal talents are on display and Lincoln soulfully embodies the lyrical content of the songs The album was co-produced by Lincoln, who also co-produced the album. According to Riverside co-founder Orrin Keepnews, who co-produced the album, each track on "Abbey Is Blue" was carefully and consciously chosen by Lincoln: from the 1946 opera "Street Scene," Kurt Weill/ Lonely House," composed by Langston Hughes; the cutting theme from the 1928 silent film "Laugh, Clown, Laugh;" and the jazz standard "Afro Blue," with lyrics by Mongo Santamaria with Oscar Brown; "Let Up," a bold message to critics The album includes "Let Up," a bold message to the critics.【パーソネル】Abbey Lincoln(vo) Kenny Dorham(tp:M-2,4,7,8,9)Tommy Turrentine(tp:M-1,3,6,10)Julian Priester(tb:M-1,3,6,10) Stanley Turrentine(ts:M-1,3,6,10) Les Spann(g:M-2,4,7,8,9;fl:M-5)Wynton Kelly(p:M-2,4,5) Cedar Walton(p:M-3,6) Phil Wright(p:M-7,8,9)Bobby Boswell(b:M-1,3,6,10) Sam Jones(b:M-2,4,5,7,9) Philly Joe Jones(ds:M-2,4,5,7,8,9) Max Roach(ds:M-1,3,6,10)

Tracklisting:

.Afro-Blue
.Lonely House
.Let Up
.Thursday's Child
.Brother, Where Are You?
.Laugh, Clown, Laugh
.Come Sunday
.Softly, as in a Morning Sunrise
.Lost in the Stars
.Long as You're Living
