He also studied with Henri Dutilleux. His works cover a wide range of genres, but his dramatic music and brass works are well-loved all over the world. His style is what one might call \"gendai ongaku,\" or \"Japanese and Russian\" in style, but without the ethnic overtones. This album is a collection of Hesketh's piano music. The highlight is \"Hola (For Clara),\" dedicated to Clare Hammond, a 12-piece, 42-minute masterpiece. The \"Through the Magic Door\" is based on Keats' poem \"Nightingale\" and \"Dark Night\" is an arrangement for piano of an interlude from the 2002 opera \"Gogol's Mantle\" (based on Gogol's original story). In addition, \"Three Japanese Pieces\" is based on material from a puppet ballet, \"Yurikago\" is about a snow woman, and \"Bunbuku\" is about a tea kettle.Claire Hammond has shown us her keen sensibility in the past with her Panufnik collection and Shimanowski, but this time it is a contemporary work from her native England.
