This disc contains Debussy's ballet music, including his last ballet and orchestral piece, the \"Amusement,\" composed in 1912 and premiered at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris in 1913; \"Comma,\" orchestrated by Quecrin (Comma is the name of a legendary Egyptian dancer); and the \"Piano Concerto,\" originally written for piano solo, and performed in 1914 by the composer himself. The three pieces include \"Toy Box,\" originally composed for piano four hands, orchestrated by Capre. Lan Shui's colorful and meticulous performance beautifully expresses the lively ballet music! In 1997, Singapore's leading national orchestra became a world-class orchestra with the appointment of Chinese conductor Lan Shui, who had previously worked in the U.S., as its musical director.He has been active in recording, and his world premiere recording of Cherepnin's complete symphonies and Rachmaninoff's symphonies have received particular acclaim.
