Kemp lived through most of the 20th century, recording for a total of 60 years. After the war, he was DG's signature pianist and left behind a vast amount of recordings, many of them in stereo. However, because of this, the prewar recordings of Kemp in his 30s and 40s have not been well received, and even when they have been reissued, they are mostly from around 1940. However, Kemp was already recognized as an extremely talented pianist in the 1920s. This time, marston has reissued all the recordings made in Berlin between 1923 and 1925. Kemp's piano playing at around 30 years of age was extremely outstanding, even from the meager sound of his trumpet-blown piano. In general, he plays clear and focused music at a fast tempo, and it is clear that Kemp was an extremely fresh pianist for his time.Although it is an acoustic recording, Ward Marston's usual careful reissue will make it enjoyable enough.
