The trio was formed about 10 years ago, when Bates was teaching at the Rhythmic Music Conservatory in Copenhagen. The trio has one song, a reworking of Charlie Parker's M-8, which is performed with reverence, modern flair, and joy, but otherwise all of the music is Bates' original compositions. The compositions and arrangements are brilliant, with a melodic sense that seems to float freely, creating a unique sound.
