The album includes two symphonies. Symphony No. 17, \"To the Joy of Life,\" with piano, is an autobiographical work about a man who overcame repeated obstacles, and its lively final movement is a triumph. Symphony No. 18, whose motif is a Latvian Jewish folk song, was written in honor of his grandparents, who were expelled from their home in Latvia.
