This piece was commissioned by the Kawagoe High School Symphonic Band in Saitama Prefecture, Japan, and was inspired by the beauty of the Perseid meteor shower, which was seen in August 2020 at Akiyoshidai, Fukuoka Prefecture, as if it were falling on the earth. Opening with a fanfare by the sparkling brass group and a bright passage by the woodwinds, the work is a brilliant overture, just as the title suggests.\n\nHarry Jansen's \"A Farewell to Arms\" was inspired by Bach's chorale \"O God, Make Me to Do Thy Good Works,\" BWV 377. While using techniques such as fugue and chorale, the work is full of grandeur.\n\nThe CD contains a total of 8 pieces for grades 3-5 and intermediate and advanced levels.
