Andre 3000, one of the members of Outkast and also known as "Andre Benjamin," has released "New Blue Sun," his first album in 17 years since his last album as Outkast, "Idle Wild" (released in 2006), and also his debut solo album. Andre himself says of this work, "Most people would think of it as ambient music, but it's not. Most people think ambient music is either too strange or too sleepy to be enjoyable. But there are actually a lot of interesting things happening in the world of music right now, and I don't think we should underestimate that. Not all music needs 808 drums or a fat bass. The "new agey" or "spiritual" stuff is usually perceived as "heavy," but maybe because I have rap roots and bring a different audience, it's seen in a different light. So I'm trying to bring a "lightness" or "humanity" to this area.New Blue Sun" is a collection of beautiful and innovative songs, sometimes humorous, sometimes provocative, with titles that are both humorous and provocative, while being firmly supported by up-and-coming instrumentalists such as Nate Marceau, a new generation guitarist, and Surya Botofacina, a keyboardist of note, New Blue Sun" is an ambitious work that reaffirms Andre 3000's exceptional sensitivity and talent.
