COLLOSSEUM, a famous British Jazz Rock band that has been active since the 60's, releases their first new studio album in about 8 years with obi and commentary! The late Jon Hiseman (dr/per) and Dick Heckstall-Smith (sax) formed this famous British Jazz Rock band in 1968, and they have released their first new studio album in 8 years since "TIME ON OUR SIDE" in 2002. The new studio album is released from RepertoireRecords in Germany! After the release of their last album "TIME ON OUR SIDE", the band broke up again in '15, but each member continued to work on their own projects, including the three-member unit JCM (Jon Hiseman/MarkClarke/Clem Clempson), which released a new album in '18. Jon Hiseman passed away in '18.The band's core players Chris Farlowe (vo), Clem Clempson (g), and Mark Clarke (b/vo), who have been active for many years from the early 70's through the reunion period, will be joined by veteran British drummer Malcolm Mortimore (drs), known for his work on GENTLE GIANT's masterpiece "THREEFRIENDS," as well as drummer Kim Nishikawara (sax). In '19, the band reunited again with veteran British drummer Malcolm Mortimore (drs), known for his participation in GENTLE GIANT's masterpiece "THREEFRIENDS", as well as Kim Nishikawara (sax), Nick Steed (key) and others. This is the first album of the new lineup. The album is an extension of the British blues/jazz of yesteryear, but it also includes ''First In Line'', ''Story Of The Blues'', which is reminiscent of 70's organ rock, the title track/ ''A Cowboy Song'' with its thick HR sound and laid back ''Tonight'', and ''Home By Dawn''. ''Home By Dawn'' and a wide variety of tunes that give the impression of a veteran's spare time, this album continues the style of the various albums from the reunion period.The rhythm section gives a sense of maturity, and Clem's guitar playing is both austere and skillful, but the young Kim/Nick team is also impressive, as evidenced by the strong Hammond organ and saxophone solos in the opening track, "First In Line". Ana Gracey (vo), the biological daughter of the Hiseman couple and also active as a solo singer, continues her success with 'First In Line' and 'Innovative'. Although it is certainly not the same as the 60s/70s, the superb melodies and arrangements filled with the mellow scent of British rock will surely make fans of the past groan!
