While he is best known as a composer of symphonies and piano works, he also left behind some truly wonderful chamber music. Among these, his short pieces for flute—written primarily for educated amateur musicians—are characterized by enchanting melodies and sparkling piano accompaniment. These four works are believed to have been composed during his travels in England (1813–1823) and are of exceptionally high quality. While many such works were likely written at the time, perhaps he was also driven by a sense of pride as a student of Beethoven. It is truly impressive that these pieces go beyond being mere displays of technical virtuosity.
Naxos Japan

Tracklisting:

.Sonate sentimentale, Op. 169: Allegro moderato
.Sonate sentimentale, Op. 169: Adagio con moto
.Sonate sentimentale, Op. 169: Rondo: Allegro
.Introduction and Polonaise, Op. 119
.Sonata for flute and piano in G major, Op. 87: (Allegro)
.Sonata for flute and piano in G major, Op. 87: Larghetto
.Sonata for flute and piano in G major, Op. 87: Theme with Variations: Allegretto
.Variations on a Portuguese Hymn, Op. 152 No. 1: Theme
.Variations on a Portuguese Hymn, Op. 152 No. 1: Variation 1
.Variations on a Portuguese Hymn, Op. 152 No. 1: Variation 2
.Variations on a Portuguese Hymn, Op. 152 No. 1: Variation 3
.Variations on a Portuguese Hymn, Op. 152 No. 1: Variation 4
.Variations on a Portuguese Hymn, Op. 152 No. 1: Variation 5
.Variations on a Portuguese Hymn, Op. 152 No. 1: Variation 6
