This album, one selected by clarinetist Robert Blaine, is a good introduction to Harrison's work. Beginning with the Cello Sonata, premiered in 1947 and highly praised by his teacher Jacob as \"the finest contemporary work,\" the album continues with The Kindling of the Day, a collection of songs with a delicate expression that was performed by the BBC and Wigmore Hall to great acclaim, and songs using poems by Bronte and Dawson.
