Annie Fischer was a frequent visitor to Japan from the 1980s onward, and won many fans. Although she was uncompromising in her performance and critical of studio recordings, her series of recordings for EMI, including the Mozart concertos, are so highly regarded that they are still regarded today as \"the standard for Mozart performance. Her commercial recordings all date from the 1950s and 1960s, before the death of her husband, Alladar Toth, in 1968, but fortunately some live recordings have been preserved. This performance with Rothbout is one such recording, and her neat Mozart and beautiful Schumann convey her enchanting figure in full.
