Happily, a revised version of No. 4 is also included. No. 2 is a radical sounding monstrosity, consisting of two movements in sonata and variation form. The composer called it \"a symphony made of iron and steel,\" and the mechanically dashing Allegro is a unique feature. The revised version of No. 4 falls between Nos. 6 and 7 in terms of timing. Compared to the first edition, it has been modified considerably, with longer playing time and a new work number, so that it is a different work. We recommend that you compare it with the first edition. James Gaffigan was born in New York in 1979. He has been associated with top orchestras in the U.S., including the San Francisco Symphony as an associate conductor and the Cleveland Orchestra as an assistant conductor, and won the first prize at the 2004 Scholty International Conducting Competition.As of 2018, he is the principal conductor of the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra, while also conducting orchestras around the world.
